This time Norman (Reddie Highmore) should have listened to his mother. When Norma (Vera Farmiga) recently suggested they abandon their motel and skip town, it sure seemed like the right choice. Her sociopathic former guest Abernathy (Jere Burns) had not only threatened the lives of her kids if she didn’t return the $250,000 he claims she stole, but he may have also dumped the corpse of her ex-lover on Norma’s bed. Despite that, “Norman doesn’t want to leave and start over again,” says executive producer Kerry Ehrin. “He’s found a home in White Pine Bay. He has his first real friend, his teacher cares about him and even his relationship with his brother is approaching that of a real family.”

But he may change his mind this week, when “many of the storylines come to a head,” Ehrin teases. “Viewers will learn what makes Norma Norma, including the origins of that scar on her thigh. Sheriff Romero’s [Nestor Carbonell] role in his lawless town will be made clear, and Norman’s relationship with Miss Watson [Keegan Connor Tracy] becomes integral.”

It’s another relationship, though, that might get Norman’s blood boiling. Could his discovery of the growing chemistry between dream girl Bradley (Nicola Peltz) and big brother Dylan (Max Thieriot) be enough to push him over the edge? Whatever the answer, there will be blood, promises Ehrin. After all, she says, “This is Bates Motel.”

Box Office: Star Trek Into Darkness Soars to the Top, Ends Iron Man 3′s Reign

Image

Star Trek Into Darkness has soared into the light.

The J.J. Abrams sci-fi sequel rocked this weekend’s box office, landing in the top spot with $70.6 million.

Although the film fell short of expectations of a $90 million plus weekend, it did manage to end Iron Man 3‘s three-week reign at No. 1, pushing the action flick to the second spot at $35.2 million.

And in spite of a lower box office total, Iron Man 3 is still doing phenomenal, considering it has officially passed the billion-dollar worldwide mark.

So well, that it has become the second highest-grossing comic book film of all time, preceded by The Avengers.

Meanwhile, The Great Gatsby and Pain ‘ Gain followed in the fourth and fifth spots with $23.4 million and $3.1 million respectively.

Here’s a complete look at the weekend’s top movies, per Friday-Sunday studio estimates and stats as compiled per Box Office Mojo:

  1. Star Trek Into Darkness: $70.6 million
  2. Iron Man 3: $35.2 million
  3. The Great Gatsby: $23.4 million
  4. Michael Bay’s Pain ‘ Gain: $3.1 million
  5. The Croods: $2.8 million
  6. ’42: $2.7million
  7. Oblivion: $2.2 million
  8. Mud: $2.2 million
  9. Tyler Perry Presents Peeples: $2.2 million
  10. The Big Wedding: $1.1 million

30 Rock’s Katrina Bowden and Musician Ben Jorgensen Are Married!

Image

Katrina Bowden is officially off the market.

The 30 Rock star, who exclusively revealed her engagement to E! News on the SAG Awards red carpet last year, got married to her musician fiance, Ben Jorgensen, today after exchanging vows at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, E! News confirms.

The couple are planning to jet to Hawaii for their honeymoon, and have even set up a website so that friends can contribute to making their getaway as memorable as possible.

“We are very excited to plan our dream honeymoon together – and can’t wait to make our perfect honeymoon dream a reality,” the post says. “This gift registry is very exciting because it allows you to contribute directly to making our honeymoon the best it can possibly be.”

In January 2012, Bowden revealed to Giuliana Rancic, “He proposed and showed me the ring and I was so shocked I just said ‘Oh my god,’ and I hugged him. Then he said to me, ‘So is that yes?’”

Aw, congratulations to the newlyweds!

Cheers & Jeers

Image

Cheers to David Letterman for getting in on the joke with future rival Jimmy Fallon. When Steve Martin guested on NBC’s Late Night, her “accidentally” stumbled into Late Show‘s CBS studio, prompting Dave to ask, “Hey, Jimmy, how’s your little skit going?” Jay Leno must be so jealous.

Image

Cheers to HBO for reelecting Veep to a third term. Emmy winner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s sharp political satire has only gotten edgier in its second season with the addition of such pay-cable aces as Kevin Dunn (Luck) and Isaiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire). Four more years! Four more years!

Image

Cheers to New Girl for keeping it all in the family. Rob Reiner reprised his wry role as Jess’s nosy dad, who barged in the morning after her first hookup with Nick. What a meathead!

Image

Cheers to NCIS for casting Colin Hanks (center, with Sean Murray and Michael Weatherly) as a dogged Defense Department Investigator assigned to determine if the squad overstepped while hunting down the Mossad agent who murdered Ziva’s father. After Hanks’s chilling turn as a serial killer on Dexter, we wouldn’t mess with him.

FACEBOOK JEER!

60% of fans jeer it

Jeers to the Hart of Dixie finale (with Rachel Bilson). I was super disappointed! They are lucky it got another season, because that would have been an awful way to end the series.

Jeers to Zach Galifianakis for proving the third time isn’t necessarily the charm on Saturday Night Live. The hirsute comedian’s first two guest-hosting stints went smoothly enough, but this go-round he seemed downright awkward, stumbling over his lines and slavishly reading off the cue cards. Maybe he had a hangover?

Three for the Money

“We’re all unique and we have different games,” says Delle Donne (center, with Diggins, left, and Griner)

There will be no rookie blues for the WNBA as the new season begins. After becoming household names during their college careers, three high-profile newbies – Baylor’s Brittney Griner (the two-time consensus national player of the year), Delaware’s Elena Delle Donne and Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins – enter the league with expectations to score on the court and at the box office.

They know it won’t be a layup. “Everyone is bigger, stronger, faster in the WNBA,” says Delle Donne, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward who was drafted No. 2 overall by the Chicago Sky. “These are the best girls in the world, so obviously I’m going to have to get used to the speed of the game.” She’ll get her first taste on Memorial Day (Monday, 5/27, 5/4c, ESPN2) when  the Sky visit the Phoenix Mercury who grabbed Griner as the top overall pick. (Diggins went No. 3 to the Tulsa Shock.) “There’s going to be so much hype, which is a great thing for the sport,” Delle Donne says of the game, her first ever against Griner. “It’s definitely a great challenge to start the season and see where we are and where we need to go, but it’s going to be fun.”
